The Ministry of Animal and Fisheries Resources (MIRAH), formerly called the Ministry of Animal Production, has existed since 1963 in Côte d’Ivoire. The first person to hold this position was Tidiane DEM on February 15, 1963. In certain contexts, the Ministry of Animal Production was merged into larger ministerial entities such as the Ministry of Rural Development (MDR) in 1983 and the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRA) in 1990. At that time, the ministry was in charge of the former Animal Production Development Company (SODEPRA), whose activities are well known in the field. The current name MIRAH dates back to 2003, after the Linas-Marcoussis negotiations following the outbreak of the military-political crisis of September 19, 2002. The ministry receives its responsibilities through Decree No. 2007-458 of April 20, 2007, regarding the allocation of responsibilities of the members of the Government, notably in its Article 14, which provides that MIRAH is in charge of implementing and monitoring the Government's policy regarding animal production and fishery resources. In this capacity, and in coordination with other ministerial departments, it has the initiative and responsibility for actions related to: Planning, promotion, and development of animal production, aquaculture, and fishing; Regulation and quality control of animal feed; Improvement, control of animal health, and health monitoring; Regulation and control of veterinary drugs, products, and equipment, in coordination with the Minister of Health and Public Hygiene; Promotion and control of veterinary drugs, products, and equipment, in coordination with the Minister of Health and Public Hygiene; Promotion and control of animal establishments; Identification and monitoring of the implementation of pastoral developments and the use of related rural space, in coordination with the Minister of Agriculture and the Minister of Environment and Water and Forests; Promotion of marketing infrastructure for animal and fishery products, in coordination with the Minister of Commerce; Development and management of fishing and aquaculture infrastructure; Promotion of maritime and river-lagoon fishing; Participation in the control and monitoring of the exclusive economic zone; Promotion, regulation, and control of the processing of animal and fishery products, in coordination with the Minister of Industry and the promotion of the private sector; Initial and continuing vocational training in the animal production and fishery resource sector, in coordination with the Minister of Agriculture, the Minister of Environment, Water e ... Promotion of professional organizations in livestock, aquaculture, and fishing; Support for the modernization of farms and animal and aquaculture production structures; Participation in the development and monitoring of programs for animal production and fishery resources; Development and monitoring of regulations regarding veterinary public hygiene and quality, in coordination with the Minister of Health and Public Hygiene; Control and monitoring of food safety of animal and animal-origin products at the levels of production, processing, and distribution, in coordination with the Minister of Health and Public Hygiene; Promotion and control of zootechnical standards; Promotion and control of zootechnical standards; Negotiations and monitoring of international agreements and conventions in the fields of animal production and fishery resources, in liaison with the Minister of Foreign Affairs; Veterinary sanitary inspection and control at borders of animals, animal products and products of animal origin as well as fishery products and feed for animals and fish; Participation in the fight against zoonoses in liaison with the Minister of Health and Public Hygiene. Today, the Ministry is headed by Sidi Tiémoko TOURE.
