Centre de conférence - Foyer Niveau 1

Information

This conference will open with a synthesis of the dynamics and challenges of pastoralism, based on a set of expert reports produced by research collectives (UMT Avenir Pasto and the INRAE network for the International Year of Pastoralism), as part of the groundwork for a new law aimed at strengthening pastoralism (French National Assembly and Senate). It will examine changes in pastoral livestock farming through work updating agricultural census data. The session will then explore the challenges facing pastoralism at the level of herd management (adaptation to climate change, genetics, animal health, predation), at the territorial level (forest fire prevention, access to water and land, development of new forms of agro-pastoralism), and at the professional level (NIMA, shepherd status, training, etc.). Two short testimonials from pastoralism stakeholders will complement and illustrate the presentation through field-based experience: a pastoral plan manager and a female farmer or shepherd highlighting new forms of entering the livestock sector.
