Climate change is having a strong impact on current forage systems. Droughts and periods of high temperatures lead to reduced yields and may also cause a decline in forage quality. In response to these climate changes, several strategies can be applied to forage systems: risk minimization, avoiding critical periods, coping strategies—particularly through the use of safety stocks—as well as maintaining soil capital. Research carried out in recent years has made it possible to partially address these adaptation challenges.
