It is a paradox: cereal yields appear to stagnate in the field, and yet, when the varietal effect is isolated from environmental and technical factors, genetic progress proves to be both real and continuous. Through multi-year experimental datasets, this conference will explore the multiple dimensions of genetic progress: increased crop potential, enhanced resistance to pests and diseases, adaptation to climatic constraints, maintenance of quality, and responsiveness to market demands. It will highlight the current challenges of varietal breeding in a context marked by increasing variability and regulatory constraints. Ultimately, it will provide key insights into how genetic progress can be leveraged to address today’s agronomic challenges.
