Food insecurity in rural areas: realities, challenges and perspectives

Information

The fight against food insecurity and food waste are not two separate battles, but two sides of the same challenge: social justice, recognition of agricultural work, and the transition of local territories. Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes has the resources, expertise and commitment needed to develop an exemplary model of territorial solidarity. The objective is clear: to turn losses into resources, strengthen local solidarity networks, and make the fight against waste a concrete lever for reducing food insecurity. In rural areas, success depends on a strong territorial organization built on cooperation and the complementary roles of stakeholders: farmers, who can make use of produce that cannot be marketed; associations, which ensure its redistribution; local authorities, which coordinate initiatives; and the State, which supports, facilitates and backs projects. Through this collective, pragmatic and sustainable momentum, it will be possible to build a fairer, more resilient and more supportive food system for the benefit of all rural territories.
