How Are Farm Animals Perceived? Perspectives from the Biological, Agronomic, and Human Sciences

As part of its “Animals” and “Livestock and Society” research areas, the GIS Avenir Élevage has launched an in-depth study of perceptions of farm animals. The chosen approach is based on a joint effort involving the humanities and social sciences (sociology, philosophy, law, history, anthropology) and the life sciences (ethology, biology, animal science). The research aims to analyze representations of farm animals up to the point of slaughter, to understand the distinctions between categories of animals (farm animals, companion animals, wild animals), and to explore perceptions of certain livestock practices (selection, reproduction, animal handling) by experts in various scientific fields and within French society, as reflected in the work conducted by these experts.
