The environmental labeling of food aims to provide information to the consumer on the impacts of production systems on the environment. This display depends on evaluation tools built from certain indicators which inevitably influence the result of the evaluation. It is therefore crucial to understand the basis on which these tools are built in order to assess the main criteria for decrypting the messages transmitted. In current tools, extensive grass farming is poorly taken into account by the indicators used. This may be related to the lack of available data or the choice of measurement unit used.
The Massif Central Grass Cluster invites you to a collective reflection to understand the construction of these indicators and the current limits, their adaptation to mid-mountain grassland farming and the role of the sectors in getting involved in this subject and enhancing the advantages of these modes of production.

The search for an alternative to the use of cereal straw for bedding in livestock farming is an increasingly important issue due to repeated climatic hazards. Due to episodes of drought, the straw can sometimes run out and its prices are bound to climb. Different materials that could represent an alternative to this have already been tested: wood chips and bark, miscanthus or dolomite. Feedback on these substitute products and their use.
