The Contact-O-Max is a fully stainless steel, remote-controlled, articulated cart designed to transport the boar in order to accurately determine the optimal timing for artificial insemination.
Its precision is achieved through sustained nose-to-nose contact between the boar and each sow. Using the remote control, the operator can position the boar exactly where needed. The recommended working method consists of stimulating sows from weaning onwards for 10 to 15 seconds, twice a day, until the exact onset of estrus is identified. This allows the optimal timing of the first, second, or third insemination to be planned.
This reproductive management approach has consistently demonstrated improved performance, with higher farrowing rates and increased litter size compared with conventional methods that do not use the Contact-O-Max.
Recommended use in three steps
1. Sow stimulation after weaning
Stimulate each sow from weaning with 10 to 15 seconds of nose-to-nose contact, once or twice a day. This first step is essential for accurately identifying the onset of estrus and scheduling inseminations at the most effective time.
2. Artificial insemination
Use the Contact-O-Max during insemination to help keep sows calm and immobile while the catheter is inserted. The presence of the boar also stimulates uterine contractions, promoting better uptake of the semen dose.
3. Return-to-estrus detection
From Day 14 of gestation until pregnancy confirmation at Day 42, the Contact-O-Max is used to detect return-to-estrus. Applying this rigorous reproductive management method helps improve herd productivity by increasing the farrowing rate and the total number of piglets born.
Installation requirements
To move the Contact-O-Max from Corridor A to a perpendicular Corridor B, the combined width of Corridors A and B must be at least 150 cm (59 in.) to allow easy maneuvering.
