Information

Since 2022, FERM’INOV has been testing a grass-based suckler cattle system managed with two calving periods and producing lean males and finished females. This study aims to design a farming system that is both profitable, resilient, and low-carbon by mobilizing complementary livestock and agronomic levers. Thanks to a strong level of productivity and the levers implemented, the net carbon footprint has decreased by more than 21%, reaching 8.1 kg CO2 eq/kg of live meat, while grasslands and hedgerows offset an average of 46% of greenhouse gas emissions. This conference will present the main results and lessons learned from this experiment, as well as the prospects it opens up for more resilient, low-carbon suckler cattle systems.
